England's Bowling Consultant Southee Unsure on The Ashes Availability

Tim Southee

The bowler's last Test for the Kiwis was against England in the final month of 2024.

England's bowling consultant Tim Southee is still working through the extent of his role will be during the forthcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.

The former New Zealand seamer is expected to be available for the opening match due to his involvement in the International League T20 tournament, which starts on 2 December in the UAE.

Southee, 36, assumed a position as England's fast bowling consultant in the warmer months after taking 391 wickets in 107 Tests for the Kiwis.

Commenting as the English squad for the first of three T20 matches against New Zealand was named, he said of his participation: "We are still evaluating the situation at the moment.

"We'll see what happens over the coming days."

England pace icon Stuart Broad had stated the Australian side as their "weakest squad since 2010", but the consultant was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the series, which begins on 21 November.

"I don't think there's ever a poor Aussie side," Southee remarked.

"Our focus is firmly on what we're trying to do. In my opinion the caliber of [England's] team that's heading out to the host country is excellent.

"It should be an thrilling encounter, the Ashes. Not just [are|do] English and Australian people eagerly anticipate it, I think the whole cricket world is."

However, prior to England travel to the city of Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they take on New Zealand in the city of Christchurch on this Saturday.
